Kanye Omari West was born in an intellectual family, his mother - Dean of the Faculty of English at the university, and his father - a photojournalist. When Kanye was three years old, his parents divorced, and he and his mother went to live in Chicago where he spent his childhood playing basketball, drawing, inventing video games. After high school he entered the West of the city of Chicago State University, but dropped out due to the failure and decided to concentrate on the job in the music industry.

As a young man Kanye West wrote songs for local artists, but it became famous thanks to the creation of influential singles for hip-hop and r'n'b, such as Jay-Z, Alicia Kic, Janet Jackson, John Legend, Paul Wall, Common, and others.

October 23, 2002 Kanye West got into a serious accident and miraculously survived. The accident inspired the artist to create his first solo single - Through the Wire, and in 2004 he was released debut album The College Dropout. The album features defined style that became famous for the West - is a play on words, and sampling. The College Dropout triple platinum status, and Rolling Stone magazine named it album of the year.

The following albums West - Late Registration (2005), Graduation (2007) and 808s & Heartbreak (2008) - were no less successful. Total Kanye statuettes awarded "Grammy" nine times.

In 2003, Kanye West started his own charitable foundation Kanye West Foundation in Chicago. The fund is focused on assistance in obtaining education for children of Latin and African Americans. Kanye West Foundation donated more than 500 thousand dollars.

West has also launched his own record label GOOD Music. Mascot and trademark is a teddy bear West, the image that appears on the covers of his three albums.

In 2008, Kanye twice arrested. First, because Kanye broke paparazzi camera for the second time already for fighting with a photographer, but in both cases, was released.
